What is the tub reglazing process?

The process involves several steps to ensure a proper adhesion of the glaze. First, the technician cleans any residue of soap, dirt or scum. Thereafter, the tech uses an etching solution to remove the original manufacturer's enamel, this is to create a rough surface where the glaze will be bonded onto the original surface.

After that, the tech will inspect and repair any damages. This can be chips, cracks, rusted areas and holes.

The technician covers everything with paper and plastic; floors, mirrors and everything else that might get oversprayed on.

Then the technician applies primer followed by several coats of glaze.

After a few hours, the technician can turn a dull, damaged tub into a new looking tub that you can enjoy for many years to come.

How long does it take to reglaze a tub?
For a bathtub, the process typically varies from 3 to 5 hours, but this depends on the conditions of the surface.
How long does the reglaze usually last?
A professionally reglazed tub can last several years, and with proper care the finish can last over 10 years. However, a DIY glaze in most cases lasts less than a year.
Is reglazing a tub worth it?
You can save hundreds of dollars by reglazing your tub instead of replacing it altogether. The tub will have the same appearance as a new tub might, and with the proper maintenance you can enjoy a new looking tub for years to come.
Is white my only color option?
No, we offer a variety of colors for you to choose from. We strongly suggest you visit the Sherwin Williams catalog and identify a color you desire. We can order almost any color that we do not already have in stock, making it available for us to use in 2 weeks’ time.
How long do I need to wait to use my bathtub?
After the job is completed, it takes 48 hours to dry. Now, for an additional fee you can use your tub after only 24 hours.
What do I need to do before your technician arrives?
We do ask for your cooperation to help our work go smoothly. We ask you to remove any furniture or personal belongings that you want to protect from dust. If this is not possible, please cover them with tarps. Do not allow any person with breathing problems to be near the work area. Keep your pets away for at least 4 hours once the job has been completed. If you sense strong odors do not go near the work site because you may be sensitive to these scents.
